Beachy Head is a chalk headland on the south coast of England, close to the town of Eastbourne in the county of East Sussex, immediately east of the Seven Sisters. The cliff there is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, rising to 162 m (530 ft) above sea level. The peak allows views of the south east coast from Dungeness to the east, to Selsey Bill in the west. Its height has also made it one of the most notorious suicide spots in the world.
The chalk was formed in the Late Cretaceous period, between 65 and 100 million years ago, when the area was under the sea. During the Cenozoic Era the chalk was uplifted (see Cenozoic Era). When the last Ice Age ended, sea levels rose and the English Channel formed, cutting into the chalk to form the dramatic cliffs along the Sussex coast. [Source]

That’s a dreamy shot of the notorious Beachy Head cliffs. Seeing it like that, helps make physical sense of a scene in a novel I read years ago that I never quite understood!
I understand why it could be difficult to imagine something like this. You have to see it for yourself at least once to truly believe that something so magnificent exists.
I might have to made do with your photograph this life! Unless I win lotto my last pennies are earmarked for South America where something or other has waylaid me these last forty years 😦

I walked Beachy Head many times when I was young and in love. It’s best of all in a screaming gale, and the wearher and the scenery match each other in grandeur and terror!

this a FANTASTIC photo. I’ve been to Beachy Head, it was a cold miserable windy English day (UK weather is usually miserable).
We took the Ferry from Dover to France and of course took lots of photos of the White Cliffs, but this is spectacular. I could never walk out there, I’d have to crawl and hang on to the grass.

Wow, amazing image and cool info! I remember seeing the white cliffs of Dover when coming from Holland on a ferry once, really stunning, but this cliff is clearly on a whole other scale!
